Handbook

Winston Hills Public School is situated adjacent to Junction Road which was originally called the Toongabbie Road and was surveyed in 1802 (14 years after Governor Phillip arrived at Sydney Cove). It connected the Government Farms at Castle Hills and Toongabbie.

The suburb of Winston Hills was developed in the late 1960's. The Department of Education purchased the land for our school in two separate parcels, for a grand total of $12 170 (£6085).

In 1970 the school was opened with an initial enrolment of sixty students. For the first five weeks our students travelled to Parramatta North Public School by bus each day till Winston Hills Public School was finally ready to take our new enrolments.

The first Principal of the school was Mr Trevor Ruse, the Deputy Principal, Mr P Kidner and a staff of five. By 1972 the staff had grown to 19 and by 1975 there were over 30 on staff and almost 600 students.

Currently we have approximately 520 students and 30 staff at Winston Hills Public School. Student enrolment patterns and staff retention rates have remained fairly stable over the past few years.
