What We Offer

Our school prides itself on providing students with access to the latest technology. The whole school is networked allowing continual access to the internet. We have two established computer labs for set computer times as well as extra computer sessions taken by the classroom teacher. There are also stationary classroom computers K-6 to support teaching within the classroom. Students have access to a wide variety of computer software and peripherals such as digital cameras, digital video cameras and data projectors. This year 4 of our classrooms have been fitted with Interactive Whiteboards with the remainder of classes to get them next year. These have proven to be a huge success with the students and teachers.

Learning programs at Winston Hills Public School are designed to maximise the individual achievement of all students. Classroom teachers ensure programs are based on the learning needs of students and are inclusive of student interests. Innovating teaching approaches allow students to engage fully with the curriculum.
The six Key Learning Areas (KLA's) taught in NSW Primary Schools are:
    -Mathematics
    -English
    -Science & Technology
-Human Society & its Environment (HSIE)
    -Creative Arts
    -Physical Education/Health/Personal Development
In support of, and in addition to the KLA's, we offer a number of special programs and initiatives which are shown below.

Support Programs

Winston Hills Public School has a team of specialist teachers who support children experiencing difficulty with their learning. A Reading Recovery teacher provides one to one assistance in both reading and writing skills until children are able to work successfully in their mainstream classroom. A support teacher learning assistance (STLA) is available for students who are nominated by their teacher as needing assistance with general literacy and numeracy skills. A specialist ESL teacher provides language assistance for children whose first language is not English.

Winston Hills Public School has a wonderful physical environment. We take great pride in maintaining our grounds. The school has abundant gardens and nature area, large grassed areas, covered shadeports for outdoor activities, basketball and netball courts, covered outdoor seating and fixed play equipment enjoyed by all students.

At Winston Hills we have a Support Unit for students with special needs. There are four classes in the Support Unit catering for children with moderate to mild intellectual disabilities and autism. The learning curriculum in the Support Unit closely follows that of the mainstream however children work on individualised programs at their own ability level. Children are encouraged to reach their full potential through a strong focus on functional literacy and numeracy as well as social skills and integration. Children are also given the chance to practice life skills such as cooking and travel training which allow them to become successful members of the wider community.

Winston Hills Public School has a Gifted & Talented policy which aims to meet the needs of gifted and talented students by developing a thinking culture within the school. G & T programs engage students in a wide range of enrichment and extension activities by implementing the K-6 Thinking Skills scope and sequence. Our school offers a range of extra curricula activities to give students the opportunity to develop their potential and satisfy their learning needs. Extra-curricula activities include Debating teams and Chess Club.
